Hey guys, I'm sure anyone who has been keeping up with the news have heard about the flood in Queensland, Australia. Having spent over three months in Queensland (particularly in Brisbane), it became almost a second home to me. I've met some amazing people, and experienced some of the best moments of my life while there.  I hope the flood will not stop anyone who is planning to go to Australia, or already in Australia from visiting this wonderful place. Recently, I received an e-mail from Bunk Backpackers (a nice hostel I've stayed at in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane), and I've decided to post it below. I think it does a really great job of explaining the situation...and it would be a shame for any traveler to Australia to miss out on the beauty of Queensland! _______________________________________________ Dear Travellers to Queensland As you may be aware Queensland has recently been inundated with devastating rains which tragically took lives, destroyed property and businesses. What you may not have heard in the media is that large parts of Queensland including major tourism destinations remain unaffected by floods. All the adventure activities such as SCUBA diving the Great Barrier Reef, white water rafting, skydiving, camping on Fraser Island, dolphin feeding, rainforest walks, bridge climbs, sailing out of Cairns and Whitsundays and bungy jumping as well as fantastic indigenous tours and farm stays are operational and waiting to show visitors a great time In Brisbane, it is business as usual… Moreton Island is as beautiful as ever, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is open, Riverlife Adventure Centre which operates on the Brisbane River has reopened and taking people rock-climbing and abseiling on the iconic Kangaroo Point cliffs, all the Fortitude Valley nightclubs are heaving, the surf is pumping on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, and the LOCALS ARE AS FRIENDLY AS EVER. Why do I tell you this? Well, the media has portrayed Queensland and Brisbane in particular as destinations destroyed… this is simply untrue! We need the message send out to your friends, family and strangers in the street, from those that know how fantastic an experience travelling to Queensland is, that Queensland, and this great city of Brisbane, is safe and as beautiful as ever.
